A really good cure for PMS

Mar 14, 2008

So I’ve found a really good cure for PMS…two actually. The first is buying another motorcycle to dink with in the garage and ride when the roads are still covered in cinder–like a 1999 KLR 650. The second is a few weeks of warm weather that melts all the snow and ice.

I bought my (new to me) KLR a few weeks ago–which is why there haven’t been any entries for a while. I have to say the fun to cost ratio for the thing is amazing. For $1700 I now have a very capable all-around bike. It commutes well, seems to go long distances well, and goes down (and up) dirt roads well. It doesn’t go very fast, but it manages everything else while putting a smile on my face every time I ride it.

Since I bought the KLR, the weather has been kind to me. I’ve been on a couple of good rides on the bike to places I’ve always wanted to go, but have always been afraid to take semi-expensive street bikes. I’m finding a lot of freedom from riding a cheap dual sport and liking it.

Had the Baby Strada out for a couple hour spin last weekend. Compared to the KLR it’s incredibly fast and stable. It’s also incredibly refined–from the engine to the transmission to fit and finish…all done much better than the KLR–but then I have about 6 times as much money in it as I do in the Kawi, so it better be more refined. Discovered I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Duc and am happy that my wife has allowed me to have two.
