So my bikes have been parked in the shop for a couple of weekends now. Both sucking up juice on various battery chargers while I worry about how I’m getting to work each morning. My 78 F250 is not much fun in the snow (2WD and all), so I’ve spent a lot of time since the Thanksgiving holiday looking at and researching trucks. I finally found a 2004 Toyota Tundra. It’s a one-owner double-cab with 77K on the odometer. Price? $17000 and I think it’s probably worth it. Been wishing I hadn’t sold my last Tundra, though.
Speaking of wishing I hadn’t sold stuff–I’ve been wishing I still had the Ural for a while now. Gets this way anytime the snow flows, though. Whenever I can’t ride the bikes sitting in the shop/garage, I wish for something I could ride. At least I’ve had the truck search and my guitar to keep me company.

The bit above was written on Dec. 5, but only “drafted.” I decided to finish it the day after Christmas by tacking an old pic from the Crooked River Canyon run on the Scrambler onto it.
I did manage to get out a couple of weekends ago. Put a few miles on both bikes–more on the Triumph because the seat is more comfortable. I banged my tailbone on a rock, you see, going sledding with my girls and had a really tough time sitting on the Kawi. That was a couple of weeks ago. Since then we’ve had a massive snow storm and are in the middle of another small (so far) storm.
Christmas came and went with no new motorcycle anything. I did get a couple things for the shop–a cool bottle opener and a rubber floor mat to stand on. I also got a new Carhart barn coat so I can work in my wife’s barn (what’s wrong with this picture?) and a Blu Ray player. I still hate the fact that to get full HD you have to use an HDMI cable–but they don’t include one in the box because they like to sell them for $50 each. Luckily I had one (from back before they realized it was possible to sell them for $50 each and did include them with DVD players).
Did finally find a truck a couple of weeks ago. Another Toyota Tundra. This one is a 2004 with a double-cab. I’m happy to be done with that, but now I have one less thing to focus on. I took the opportunity at the DMV to register the Scrambler (finally) and spent a whopping (for Oregon) $204 on titles. Three days ago I got the bill to re-register our other Toyota. Merry Christmas DMV!
Added a thumb of a happier, warmer day on the Scrambler to remember the riding season to come.
