I think I’ve been out more this winter than any winter in recent memory. The photo with this particular post was from Feb. 6, 2011 and I could’ve gone out again the weekend after that, but didn’t because I was sick. Unfortunately, my happy streak of riding came to an abrupt end when we got a huge dump of snow about a week ago. There’s still a bunch on the ground as I type this, but the weather has been warmer these last few days and it’s melting away slowly.
I ordered stuff to change the oil in both bikes last week. Once that’s done, it’ll be time to do tires. I’m thinking of the same Shinko 244s for the Kawi since I’ve gotten somewhere around 7000 miles out of them. For the Scrambler? Shinko 705s look like they’ll do what I want.
I keep going back and forth about the Scrambler. Every time I ride it or look at it, it’s awesome. It’s comfortable, fun to ride, gets good mileage, goes fast enough and looks great. What’s the problem? The problem is that I don’t really need more than one motorcycle. Time and again, I’ve proven to myself that the Kawi is the more practical and versatile bike. It’s also fun to ride with the SuperTrapp mounted. Oh…and did I mention cheap? It was cheap to buy. It’s cheap to insure. Parts are cheap. Even farkles are cheap. It goes everywhere and does everything–except look as cool as the Scrambler. Easy (and forgiving) to work on, too. It’s a hard-to-beat combination. Could use a softer seat, though.
With those thoughts running through my head, it’s hard to want to spend any money at all on the Scrambler. Then I hop on it and go for a ride and grin just about the whole time–just like on the Kawi. My wife hasn’t told me to get rid of it either, so it’s hard to want to let it go–especially thinking that chances are good that I’d just spend the money on horse stuff for her (horse trailer) and probably put it toward the very nice, but very uninspiring Tundra I recently brought home.
Ahhh decisions, decisions. What would life be without them?
