It was a bit of a wrestling match, but I managed to change the tires on the Scrambler all by my lonesome on April 3. Installed new tubes and Dyna Beaded both ends. I have over 400 miles on the tires now, so they’re thoroughly scrubbed in, but I’m not sure that I care for the ride on the new tires. Feels like it’s harder to get the bike down while going ’round a curve…and takes effort to pull it back up. Makes for a workout of a ride.
The Shinkos are not that great on the gravel–not spooky or sketchy or anything, but I have to say that I preferred the death wings…even in their very used state. They certainly look good/appropriate on the bike, though, and I could see them getting better with time. In an ongoing maintenance-type-theme I changed the oil in the bike last Sunday (did the Kawi a week ago today…along with a doo and steering head bearing adjust).
I’m riding in good conscience now–except that now I’m feeling done with the Scrambler and have had it on CraigsList and ADVRider.com (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=685474) for the last several weeks. Have had some interest in trading–a number of KLRs, DRs, etc. The most interesting trade offer/s were for a BMW R1100S and a Kawi ZRX1200R. Still thinking about that one. I have a fantasy, though, about doing the Chowder Run on a big touringy kind of bike this year.
